A word about the CD...
For some time I have considered cutting a CD while I can still sing reasonably well. My greatest hesitation was not wanting to be seen as someone on an ego trip. Then I thought about what I tell my voice students: the voice is a gift from God. As we read in the Bible, there are many gifts, and we are expected to use what gifts we have to the Glory of God. I always ask them how much their parents paid for their voice? Of course, the answer is NOTHING, you either have the ability to sing, or some other gift. I tell them I walk into Powell Hall with a violinist whose instruments (they generally have more than one) cost as much as a very nice house, and I paid nothing by comparison. Consider Christine Brewer's voice, which is universally rated as in the top twenty in the world. We both paid the same price, nothing. Her voice is much more refined and more powerful than mine. But can I upgrade like a trumpet player and buy a better more expensive instrument? No! But I can practice and use it as much as possible and keep it honed.
Our goal is to make the CD be a statement of our faith, and something that will hopefully outlive us, and hopefully be a blessing and the songs be a source of comfort and encouragement to many.
Many gifts keep our church the vital church that it is. They are the gifts that don't always get applause, or even acknowledgement. Those "givers" receive the highest praise of all from the God that bestowed the gift to them!
Marilyn and I sincerely hope that the CD will be a blessing to all who hear, not because we're so great, but the Father, Son and Holy Spirit that we sing about are our only hope in this world in which we live!
